Thanks to the support and help of ANCOM, RFOA (Romanian Fiber Optic Association) and of the Technical Comittee ASRO/CT 138 – Fiber optics, ASRO has translated the romanian version of the standard SR EN 60794-5-10:2014- Optical fibre cables – Part 5-10: Family specification – Outdoor microduct optical fibre cables, microducts and protected microducts for installation by blowing.
By creating the romanian version of SR EN 60794-5-10:2014 standard, the Technical Comittee ASRO/CT 138 delegates together with ANCOM and RFOA delegates agreed that the Romanian standardized translation of the English term ’’microduct’’ will be ’’microtub’’. The term ’’microtub’’ consists of ’’micro’’ which designs a very small size (usually between 3 and 16 mm; check the National note N1 in the standard) and ’’tub’’ which indicates that it is smaller than a pipe or a conduit, having a very clear role of protection.
It is recommended the use of the romanian term ’’microtub’’ instead of the following terms:
’’tubetă’’- which was used so far by many of fiber optic specialists and many specialist within fiber optic industry;
„microconductă”- which was used up to the present moment by some specialists as well.
Standards/ Recommendations having as subject the microducts:
• SR EN 60794-5-10;
• SR EN 60794-5-20;
• ITU T L.162 – Microduct technology (ITU recommendation );
• Telcordia GR 3155 – Generic Requirements for Single/Bundled Microducts and In-Living Unit (ILU) Cable Pathways.
The SR EN 60794-5-10 standard shows the technical specifications of the tree major components used increasingly in underground fiber optic networks in Romania, especially in metropolitan fiber optic networks:
• fiber optic cables for installation by blowing in microducts (also known as micro-cables), which have smaller dimensions than the ADSS aerial cables;
• the microducts installed inside counduits (‘’Direct Install”);
• the protected microducts which are installed straight in the excavation („Direct Buried”).
The standard includes technical requirements for microducts accessories and it also includes the verification method of microduct integrity (see Annex E of the standard).
In recent years, at the international level, microducts have been the basic infrastructure for underground fiber optic networks and we hope that the new Romanian version of SR EN 60794-5-10 standard will support in the future the growth and the development of the Romanian market, according to the objectives set out in the European Union Digital Agenda (which provides that by 2030 each house will be connected via fiber optics).
The standard can be acquired online from ASRO’s website- https://bit.ly/3sSEUcb- at the price of 135,66 Lei.
Once again, thanks to the support of ANCOM, RFOA and of the Technical Committee ASRO/CT 207 – The interconnection of information technology equipment, ASRO has also approved and published at the end of the last month the Romanian version of the following standards:
Information technology. Generic cabling systems.
Part 1. General requirements.
This standard indicates the structure and the backbone cabling subsystems configuration of generic cabling systems within the types of locations and/or spaces defined by the other parts of the EN 50173 standard; the transmission and environmental performance requirements of the channels for the parts of the EN 50173 standard.
The standard can be acquired online from ASRO’s website- https://bit.ly/3sSEUcb- at the price of 442,13 Lei.
Information technology. Installation of cables. Part 3: Outside design and installation techniques.
This standard marks requirements and provides recommendations for the following aspects linked to the cabling of the information technology: -design; - method of installation. In addition, this European standard applies to all classes of cables for the information technology outside the building, including for generic cable systems design in accordance with the EN 50173 standard. All the requirements and recommendations of this European standard may be applied to the cable integrated into the building.
The standard can be acquired online from ASRO’s website- https://bit.ly/3sSEUcb- at the price of 279,89 Lei
Information technology. Distribution of the access network inside locations (PDAN) to withstand the deployment of broadband optical networks
This standard specifies the optical fiber access network cabling inside multi-subscriber locations, called the distribution access network inside locations (PDAN). Locations can comprise a single building or multiple buildings (campus).
The standard can be acquired online from ASRO’s website- https://bit.ly/3sSEUcb- at the price of 126,64 Lei
The drafting of these standards’s Romanian version represents an important achievement for this field, a confirmation of the usefulness and necessity of a common language for all the specialist working in the field and for all the activities they undertake.
